I usually hear them howling and carrying on at night and thats all ok by me cause my chickens are locked up by then and my cats are inside..ect...
so is it normal for it to be alone?.. it was a single coyote...
last time I seen them was about 5 years ago, there (when my malamute chased after them) but they were across the corn field and it was at 6am and there were about 7 of them
Most of time, coyotes do hunt alone even when part of a family group. Group behavior (howling) either reinforcing social bonds or signal to rival groups and loner that family is strong and united. Not all coyotes at a given time are part of a social group. They are the equivalent of a lone wolf that is wondering about between / through coyote territories trying to find a mate and patch of land for them selves.
Your coyotes may have some grey wolf in them so they will run a bit larger (size wise) and in packs with more than typical breeding pair. In that case, your typical "coyote" experiences will differ from those of us living to your southwest. Yours will be bigger and tougher
great i get the coyotes on steroids! lol
