And I always thought it was trolls under the bed...all the time that hissing was Fred!!!

OMG! I've laughed so hard reading this thread. Possums must think these chicken people love to provide dinner. The one in the pic below was dining regularly on cat food and had dug in under the back porch. Figured if we ran out of cat food and he had to go farther, the chickens were just across the yard. For reference, the chihuahua is 5.5 lbs.

Mr. Possum got a one way trip to the Corp of Engineers lake twenty miles away. Thought that was a better place for him to camp out for the winter!

I think "Fred" was at least the big last year if it's the same one. I had him visiting and then one night my old dog had a smaller one trapped on the back porch, I really wanted to touch that one, it was small cat sized and I still laugh when I think about what my husband must have thought as he walked to the glass door and saw me reaching out to touch a hissing possum beside a dog with barred teeth!! LOL!!! Guess he was wondering if the trade-in warranty was still good!!

That fur looked so soft I just wanted to touch it and as I stretched my arm out he walked up and yelled, scared me to death and gave the possum the opportunity to run off so they could easily be the same two..although I am kinda over my urge to pet them, lol!!! Don't know anyone with have-a-heart traps though and hate to kill something that has been living here not causing problems for over a year now..no idea what we'll do. I looked under the shed just now and couldn't find them although the rat catacoombs under there mean dirt is piled everywhere so they could easily be there..plus I have flicked like 40 rats under there so lots of rat legs poking up in the air too..I dunnoooooooo!!! Where is Rooster Red when you need him?!!

Aww, well keep your eyes open for babies Scrambled, you can pet a baby without too much trouble it seems, just make sure mom went shopping or something when you DO...

I hope you were using the zoom on the camera.

Those critters can get nasty real quick. Notice those teeth...they can be dangerous and give very nasty bites. Do be careful.

Put some cat food out for them on the opposite side of the property from your chickens and feed them nightly unless you plan on disposing of them.

Good luck.

Just a little FYI here...
Mom carries the babies either in the pouch when they are small or on her back as they get bigger, but they are with her everywhere she goes right up to the moment they climb off and become independant.
