Home Made Waterer - Inexpensive too!!

I use the water cups to water my girls thats hooked to a 5 Gallon bucket. the only thing I did different was to put a shut off valve at the end of the pipe so that I can drain off the water without unhookig everthing. every other day i drain the old water out and add fresh to the bucket. My bucket and pipe are both white and I haven't had any problems with alge doing it this way,and I just feel better about knowing their water is fresher.

Hi from Ga. I get Oxine from Amazon.com $25+ $10.49 shipping for a gal.

Wow, thanks for that info! I will be spray painting it today!! I heard that for every 5 gallons you can add a few ounces of bleach that will help disinfect the water?? Not sure the ratio - - -

i use apple cider vinegar in my system 1 tablespoon to a gal. i just didn't like the idea of bleach not because it will hurt them i know if its got the correct ratio it wont hurt them but if i wont drink it why should i have my ladies drink it.

Do you drink tap water from a city water supply?

I don't think you can hook this up directly to a pressurized hose. The chicken would go to get a drink, get sprayed in the face, and then probably run for the hills. This system HAS to be gravity fed.
Jack

YOu will need a pressure regulator or they will leak, alot. 8psi is the recommended pressure for nipples.

I was thinking the same thing, but tested it prior to find the best angle so they get water and it wont leak. Moving them straight down might require me to move it up.

They should be straight down. Raise them until they above the head. My birds drink easily from nipples that they can walk under. They reach up and stretch their neck and the water flows into their mouths.

Water is always critical. Nipples allow plenty of water. Nobody wants thirsty stressed chicks. They will drink until they are satisfied. Make stairs out of bricks or wood under the nipples to accomidate the different heights,

Lovely! Glad to know the nipple system is working for someone else too!

I like the bucket part! Mine is all pipe, it's shaped like a T and works rather well, but next time, I think I may have to consider using a bucket!
Thanks for the idea!!!
