Hello friends :)
My D'Uccle rooster died unexpectedly yesterday and I decided to perform a necropsy today in the hopes that you guys could help me possibly diagnosis what killed him

Note: he sat in ice for 24 hours before the necropsy

He was found dead with a dark purple comb. When I found him he was in good body condition. When I started the necropsy he looked very skinny but was not like that time of death.

The day he died:

I apologize if there aren't enough photos or if the photos are not detailed enough. This is my first necropsy and I mainly focused on the heart and lungs because I suspect that he died of a heart attack.

TIA,
Cyprus

Before or after the heart is removed?
When I removed the heart there was a lot of blood. I mopped up what I could.
Ok...I get it now.
For some reason I was thinking there shouldn't be blood...I am thinking of watching videos of meat birds being processed...after the blood is drained.

I really suggest that you watch the videos you suggested to me. They were extremely helpful :)

I don't know what I'm looking at either. As far as I can tell all of his organs are normal.

I am very sorry for your loss:hugs
My best guess with organs looking that healthy is dehydration. Does it get hot where you live? I know it was accidental, you seem a very dedicated chicken mom. :hugs
No. It's been getting up to the 90's lately but the day he was without water it didn't get over 57 degrees F.
The dark purple comb has me thinking it was a heart attack, but the heart and lungs looked normal.
