Sorry to hear about your loss.
I think you did an amazing job on the necropsy.

I agree. I am fairly certain he had some issue with his heart. Makes me a little glad I didn't breed him.The only thing that jumped out at me as being abnormal were the purple comb, the crop being empty. Unless he died early in the morning. And the heart looked a little big to me before it was removed. And the first picture of it in your hand looked darker than it should be.
Ive done a necropsy on a chicken that had a respiratory sickness before. Its mouth wad full of goo, your boys mouth was clean, and the lungs looked whiter than normal.
Your boy looks super healthy! I think it was maybe a heart defect.
Oh ok...I was wondering if they could possibly be a blockage.I touched it, causing it to deflate like that
I probably messed with more of the body than I should have. I was learning, at least.

Based off all that I've experienced with the trio I bought, I will never buy from that breeder again. Something just doesn't sit right.
This is the series I used to prepare myselfthis is the video series I watched, when I was getting ready to do a necropsy. somebody on byc suggested it. It's super detailed I think it's aimed more at veterinarians but it has a lot of info for the average person who is up to the task on their own. it certainly shows you what to look for and where. there are 11 parts the first one is just on how to keep things sanitized.
Is that the ceca, the 2 blind pouches of the small intestines that produce cecal poops? I have only done a handful of necropsies, and am learning muself. What's going on here?
