Homegrown vs store bought

then why raise laying hens if you don't like the eggs... I don't get it?

Home grown eggs can have a range of flavor.

I find home grown eggs from hens who have the freedom to free roam and potentially be eaten by wildlife have stronger tasting eggs than hens who have to be be kept in a coop + run for their safety. That said, as long as they get sun exposure and some variation in diet other than pellets, their eggs are all a richer flavor than store eggs.

I too cannot eat a store egg unless it is hidden inside of a recipe.

As for home grown birds.

People raise them to show, to breed, to eat, for fun, so not everyone does it only for the eggs.

Many people have only eaten production eggs and just can't adjust to the taste of one that came from a free ranged chicken. That's understandable. We once had some city born and raise friends stop in and gave them sweet corn that we picked from our garden and boiled immediately--they didn't like it's flavor. Just a sign as to how far we've gotten from our food sources, I guess.

Seriously, google "battery hens" (in the images section) and you'll never want to buy commercial eggs again. It's not why I got into raising my own chickens, but it will certainly keep me from buying store bought eggs ever again. (and taste too of course)

I brought my bo eggs over to moms today, we compared them to windixie large white eggs. did the float test dixie past, to be honest with everyone the only difference we noticed in all the eggs was the fact that my egg yolk was more orange/yellow then the pale yellow windixie egg, to us they both just taste like eggmaybe I'll try it in an omlet and see I usually just fry my eggs.
