homemade chicken feed

I'm new to chicken keeping so take my opinion considering that but my logic is that chickens in the wild, as with any of bird, survives on what it finds in nature. If you are free ranging your chickens with plenty of space, especially if they have access to some wooded area, I wouldn't worry too much about how you suppliment their diet. If you are limited on space for them then just think about what they would be eating if they did have adequite ranging space. Chickens in the wild are not going to be eating cooked grains, fried chicken....and actually probably not a lot of grains. Give em bugs, veggies, and whatever else you think is good and see how they do. Then adjust as you need. I use commercial feed and make my own, and free range them....a little of everything can't be bad but I would add that feeding your chickens chicken meat is nasty and I personally wouldn't be able to eat my eggs from a cannibal chicken lol. Take it for what its worth

I gave my friend 6 of my RIR chicks back in Jan. I feed my flock Purina layena for my layers,Purina flock raiser for every one else, except my cx get nutrina meat bird cause it is a little higher in protein then the flock raiser but Ive done them on just flock raiser before with great results...anyways,My friend uses his own "mix" and my chicks from the same batch are (and I'm not even kidding)2x as big and farther along maturity wise,so although his chickens are alive and doing good there def, not doing great, most of us here aren't nutritional poultry scientists, and don't know exactly what we need to mix together to give our bird the best possible diet they can have so I think even though mixing your own is more self sustainable, its not giving them every thing they need to live up to their genetic potential.
