FarmerDenise -- I'd love to hear more about your experience growing grain crops for your chickens. In particular, which did you find the most drought tolerant? Which do you think produced the highest food/growing space ratio?
So far we have grown green crops for our ducks -- they are currently a little too enamored with the winter cover crop called typhon, but they also love clover. I have also tried my hand at oats and experimented half-heartedly with austrian field peas. My ducks seemed to really relish the oats, but I didn't get a very high yield (my growing season was short this year).
Anyone else who's attempting this?
