Homemade Fly Trap

Quote:
I got that stuff, spent all day tracking it down! I put some out on a paper plate and nothing happened... it didn't kill one fly, I was very disappointed indeed. I had one of those stinky traps and it had tons of flies buzzing around it. some went in some didn't. So THEN... I mixed it with chicken poo. it became very toxic chicken poo!! and then I smeared it on the stinky trap. I am a fly killing machine. I'm sure I'm gonna go to hell for this... problem with the whole fly killing operation is they die pretty quickly. now on the ground under this hung up fly trap is a kinda funny green/blue/black sheen.... ew. and I also have about a million flies dead or dieing everywhere. they take a bite fly off and then they kinda look like a helicopter swirling down.

so question. how do you get them to eat the bait? they much prefer the milk jug with rotting meat in it.
and can chickens eat the dead flies? I have the traps far away from them and my dogs. but they do sometimes fly off.

I might have to try these.

we have TONS of flies in the feed/chick room, and they BITE!, I have dozens on me at a time and they all seem to bite at once!

I set up two sicky traps a few days ago, both are now COVERED with flies and gnats, I need to take them down already

I found another way to kill several hundred at a time, open the chick room window and all the flies sit on the screen then close it on them.

but they just keep repopulating!

I got my golden malrin at a Farm Supply co. you might try tractor supply or such. When I set mine out they didn't do anything either then I poured a little table scraps on it the juice soaked up some then the fly's started eating and you know the rest of the story.

Hey currycomb! The Malrin works great but can your chickens or other animals eat the flies that are dead? If they can they can be poisoned. Just want to make sure. I hang my Malrin away from the coop and run.

It's goooood stuff!!!!

If you have a lot of flies sprinkle the bedding really good with DE and add another layer of bedding on top of that. The flies eggs won't hatch in it.

I swear there is a dead body rotting around here or something. I am going to have to kill every fly in the pacific northwest.... I don't have flies in my coop just the run and everywhere else... but mostly near my stinky traps. I take about a table spoon of the golden malrin. put it in a disposable cup with 3-4 table spoons of water and let it sit and dissolve a few minutes. It is still active when turned into a liquid. with a disposable spoon go find the stinkiest (you know the one) poo you can find and mix a couple of those in with the malrin. wa-la almost instant fly death. just a couple bites and they are toast. I smear this on the top of the stinky traps... hey they are there any way why not stop for a bite to eat?

now does it seem like I have fewer flies... No not really. there are thousands and thousands of dead flies 5 ft from my killer traps. and inside them. I don't keep it near my chickens. I still have just as many. I have DE sprinkled every where. put down sand to keep things dry. clean up poop in run and coop every day some times more than once! still have a bunch of flies. they are demon aliens sent to make me crazy....

ya I'm sure that is it...

Connie

edited to add: I did have a milk jug fly trap with rotting meat in it... OMG I couldn't take it any more. I would rather have flies. I wish I could just put out a container of the golden malrin and they would eat it... but they are way more interested in any kind of poo. dang it!
