Homemade GUMP Bread - best I've found! **New pics added on pg. 5**

Cheddar cheese and bread is winning combo no matter where you are.

I love biting into bread with melty cheese inside.

Which reminds me I should make cheese straws and cheese biscuits and make photos.

I have been following this thread for since it first posted and have been watching everybodys results, they all look great. I thought that I would make it, but as is my nature I made a few small changes in the recipe, I thought the changes would improve the look and taste and crispness of the crust of the bread, I hope you don't mind.

1. I added 1 tbsp of softened salted Butter.
2. I aslo added 2 tbsp of non fat dry milk.
3. When preheating the oven I put a broiler pan on the bottom
shelf and added 1 cup of ice cubes to the hot pan just as the
bread went in, this creates steam.
4. I spritzed the bread with water just before I put it in the oven,
this also makes the crust crispier.

Here are the results, hope you don't mind the small changes.

The next time I make it I am thinking of playing with a glaze of some kind, maybe super shiny and more golden, and perhaps shape it into a hearth loaf with a rustic flour finish, and see what happens.

Looks wonderful, Al!

It is a very versatile recipe. We all tend to tweak things to suit our tastes.

I know gumpsgirl will be thrilled to see the changes you made.

This thread is now up to 356 post. Gumpsgirl did you expect this?

Al, those breads look awesome. I like what you said about sauce too.
We make 20 variations of tomato sauce. Me and my wife compete with
sauce. The rest of the time she just bows to my ego and laughs at
me while she gets to play Wii with our kid as I cook. She ain't stupid.

Buster, we had lasagna at my mom's tonight. My cousins were visiting
from Cali with their 4 month old baby. Great night. Anyhoo, I've never
made a good lasagna. That's a future project.

Yeah Buster, let's give it a shot. I'd like to use my own egg noodles and
make a vegetarian version along with a meat version.
