Homemade GUMP Bread - best I've found! **New pics added on pg. 5**

the first time I messed this up beating it too long with the dough hook. this time it is awesome. I made two loaves..one for our supper and one for my neighbor. Made them BLT soup, bread and a pie as a thank you. My dh has let the neighbor cut lots of wood here for their furnace..for free of course...and the neighbor brought us a load of wood he had cut from elsewhere. So nice since we were getting low. So this supper is our thank you. I also don't think you could put this recipe in two bread pans...too much bread. ha ha I would use three if I were using a bread pan but love it this way. quickest, best bread recipe I have ever found. THANK YOU GUMPSGIRL, YOU ARE AWESOME.

tonight's going to be GG's warm bread splattered with butter and potato soup----In that order!

I just roll the dough out like I would for a loaf of bread but one I get it rolled out, I spread softened butter on it. Then I sprinkle white sugar (not brown) and cinnamon all over the top of the butter. Then roll up and slice into cinnamon rolls. Let rise for 25 minutes and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. Then I make a glaze and pour over the tops after the rolls have been out of the oven for 3 minutes. I can post the recipe for the glaze if you need it.

Just look at all those loaves of bread you guys have baked!

When my sis sent this recipe to me I said, yuk! But tried it and oh my goodness, it is really very, very good. I have substituded reg. milk or canned milk for the half-n-half. It cooks up so quickly and one of those marvelous soups that are better the next day. Oh, I use two large cans of petite diced tomatoes in place of the fresh tomato.

BLT Soup

I lb. bacon cut up
2 tlbs butter
1/4 - 1/2 iceberg lettuce cut julliene style
9 tbls flour
16 oz chicken broth
1 large fresh tomato diced
1/4 teasp nutmeg
1/8 teasp cyenne red pepper
8 oz half & half
In heavy pan, over medium heat, cook bacon until lightly browned, do not drain
Add butter and heat until melted
Stir in lettuce and saute 2 minutes
Add flour stirring until well blended and even cook 2 minutes
Remove from heat and stir in broth, tomatoes, nutmeg, and red pepper. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and gently boil 6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add half & half, mixing well. Heat to simmering, stirring often

That recipe looks awesome! I will be trying this very soon! Thank you!

My family LOVES soup and the bread would go perfectly with this. I am going to slice a loaf into thick slices, butter them, and toast them under the broiler.

It's a shame I don't have everything I need to make this tonight.

it is extremely simple to make and very fast! Neighbors got a loaf of your bread to go with this soup tonight. We are having the soup tomorrow night.

I really like the "extremely simple to make very fast" parts! That's what this busy mommy of 5 needs here.
