With that NR 360 candler, it light washes thru the white plastic lid. Do you have something dark like black craft paper/cardboard you could cut a hole into and set over top of the light? This would focus the light into the egg more to see better.

Candle thru the fat end in complete darkness in room also helps. Good luck with your hatch.

Ooh thank you! I will try that too! 🙏

I just remembered in the middle of the night about saddled air cells. I do think many of them are saddled. 😬

And I had been planning to candle again at day 18 before lockdown but now I am seeing day 14 mentioned? Should I candle on day 14 first and then lockdown day 18?

I candled on day 7, (checked questionable eggs on day 10, removed one clear) then again on day 14. (I was also doing this with my class so I could show them the development!) and I did candle really quickly on day 18 right before I put them on lockdown to make sure everyone had continued developing. You can't see much on day 18, because they take up most of the egg. Some people don't candle on day 18, and of course you could always just candle the eggs you weren't as confident about and leave the others be.

I also second the cardboard/black paper trick on the NR360; that's what I did when I candled and it made a huge difference! The light really comes up a lot through the plastic and washes out the egg, making it hard to see shadows properly. Combine that with the night mode trick from @horselover1999 , and you should definitely see what's going on in there!

Best of luck, so excited to see the little fluffballs! :wee

Thank you so much! This is very helpful! I will do that! I loved watching your hatch-along and now I’m following your grow-along! Yay fluffballs!! 🥰

Today is day 14 and we plan to candle again this evening. But I just saw this on one of the eggs. Does anyone know what this is? 🧐

Whatever it is - it seems to be crystallized on the shell. I read that anything seeping signals a bad egg, so I gently pulled it out and put it in a bag. Do you think it’s bad? It’s too light outside to get a good candle right now. This is egg #9.
