Welcome! This is a place to discuss your actual schoolwork! Home or other non private or public schoolers only please! Some other homeschool threads are more focused on life in general, but this one is for education itself! Feel free to share a little about yourself, studying methods and tips, what curriculum you use, what classes/electives you take, your grade, who homeschools you, if you’re homeschooled with anyone else, etc. Middle school and High school ages, and please keep it P.G.

Ok, I’ll start. I’m Shelby and I’m in 9th grade. I’ve pretty much homeschooled myself for years. My mom homeschools my siblings, although a couple of them are more independent like me. I use Acellus (an online program) for my electives (Social-Emotional Learning, Psychology, Music Appreciation, and Spanish), Math, and Science. I use Abeka for my Lamguage arts (Grammar {which my grandma helps me with}, Literature, Poetry, and Spelling and Vocabulary). I also take Piano on the side. My favorite way to study is Quizlet.

How do you like abeka? I used it for all my school for every year, I'm graduated now.

I enjoyed the Middle school and the Elementary had too much busy work. As for 9th grade, the language arts are good but I hated the math and science. I didn’t do the health and history is ok. TBH Abeka seems more geared towards private schools.

I thought abeka was pretty hard, especially to do on your own. It didn't explain things in the textbooks very well. I did most of my studying for the SAT and such on Khan academy, I highly recommend it.

That’s one thing that’s been really nice on Acellus, is better explanation by a teacher.

do you like Acellus? many of my friends do it but I'm afraid to try it as I did another online school program and hated it. Going back to studying from books next school year

I love it. It’s so much better than Abeka. It’s tailored to Homeschool kids so it’s much quicker, since we don’t have to be in school for 8 hours. Some of the videos are pretty old, but I like them. My math teacher is annoying though. My videos are 4-15 minutes depending on subject. After the video you have to answer questions on what you just watched, and it sends your guardian all the information on how you did in each subject.
