honestly i dont like silkies lol

Eh, each to their own I guess...

I'm new to silkies - just got my first batch of chicks about a week+ ago. I'm a fan of fluffy and unusual so silkies always kind of intrigued me (esp. the bearded ones). I'm honestly not sure what I think as of yet. I'm actually really confused about the breed and am not entirely sure what I have in terms of gender, type, and color... I've also have come to realize that my chicks aren't as friendly as I hoped and anticipated... I'm hoping they'll become a bit more warm-hearted as they grow up. Everyone told me silkies were cuddly and that's what I was sort of going for when I decided to get them

So I guess I'll see and get back to you... lol

I have an EE X Silkie cross (I think it's silkie anyway) - very cute, lays olive to green-blue colored eggs. She's my little girl. She was from the first batch of chickens I have ever gotten (got her as a chick from a farmer along with 3 others) and because of her, have fallen in love with chickens in general. This little hen is AMAZING! I really do love those mutts! <3

So yeah... I was really hoping my others grow will up with her loving and out-going attitude, but I probably really shouldn't expect it at this point...

That's OK, it takes a SPECIAL person to love Silkies......

But Sophie says she still likes you.........

Sophie rides in the truck with me ( She's known as the Cowgirls FOO FOO Dog), goes to TSC with me and visits the locals, confuses children and educates them on the cuteness factor of chickens.... she goes with me to drive thru's and freaks out some people ( not use to seeing a chicken with hair) ..... one person thought she was a monkey....

She free ranges my house in a chicken diaper and cuddles up with me on the couch to watch our favorite shows...... she's a hoot.

I like Silkies, but they are not practical for me, lol. They are usually the first to get "gotten" if there are predators about, they don't lay many eggs, and I can't usually bring myself to butcher and eat them when I have had mean roos. That being said - I do think they are adorable, especially as chicks - they are gorgeous and some are especially sweet. I don't have silkies anymore - maybe someday I will again, but for now I am looking forward to having some attractive chickens who lay plenty of eggs and are substantial enough that I can eat extra roos.

chickenzoo, Sophie always cracks me up!

I'm not a Silkie fan myself. I'm not a fan of many other breeds I think look odd, either, mainly ones I consider out of proportion in some way. There's a chicken breed for everyone, fortunately.
