Amber stared at Orchid, dead in the eyes. "No. I won't leave. Because, for one thing, I care about these cubs as much as you do. I would take care of them by myself if you allowed me to, but you won't. And for another, I don't want to talk about it because it's painful to remember. Happy?" Her eyes flashed

"No, I am not, happy," Orchid said seriously, "I deal with painful memories every day, waking and dreaming, I can never get away. My happiness? It is usually just a mask to hid my pain, so do not speak to me about painful memories like that," she added quietly.

Amber glared at her. "I get that. And if you want me to feel sorry for you, I can't. My life was nothing. Do you understand? There is nothing about my past that needs to be uncovered and drawn to the top. I came here to escape them, yet they always follow me and haunt me. And I'm apologetic that you've had painful memories as well, but as you'd know, there's nothing I can do to make it better."

"I am aware of that and I do not wish for your pity. Pity is weakness! But do not speak to me as if I know nothing of painful pasts! I will not tolerate that. It will always follow you as it has always followed me and I look on in disgust as you continue running. Running from the past is cowardly and weak!" Orchid spoke with a dead look in her eyes, her true personality surfacing.

Amber sighed. "And well am I aware of that now, Orchid. But, truly, you know nothing of me. You cannot define what is weak, what is cowardly for me. That is my decision to make." Her voice was smooth like honey, her eyes deadly calm.
