Somewhere down in Texas
Has anyone ordered BCMs, sapphire gems, or assorted colored layers from Hoover’s ? I’m looking into purchasing some but was wondering about others experiences with egg color(s), lifespans of birds, health of the birds, quality of the birds, etc. I appreciate any feedback and info.

I've not ordered from them recently, but last fall I got some birds at a store that obviously uses hoover's, they were healthy, etc. They were midnight majesty marans, which is a cross from barred rock hen and black copper marans rooster. Though hybrid, they have a very large darker speckled egg, a copper egg, and a normal tan egg barely as dark as you'd get from any sex-link. I tried to select for clean legs but got several with feathered, so I'd guess the purebreds have decent feathered legs. (plus, one was a cockerel and another was a barred rock)
A couple of years ago I got their sapphire gems and they were wonderful! big healthy chicks right out of the box, feathered in about 5 weeks in spite of my babying them, laid first egg at 18 weeks. Very large eggs, no issues, but had to sell the flock so no experience with their longevity. BTW, I think the postal issues have subsided, as I saw that the TSC has resumed using Hoover's after using Privetts for a while.

Now that I think about it, I got sapphire gems from Hoover’s last year via TSC, but they passed due to MG early this year. :( Thanks for the response. I will look into it more.
