Hopfully the kids got the message even though the staff didn't.

I had a friend jokingly ask if my eggs were safe? I replied , " None of my chickens have been recalled!" We both got a good laugh!

My kids schools have been like that for a while. No home made foods... My daughter takes them anyway and shares with her friends at lunch. My youngest won't eat the store bought eggs anymore because "they're just not the same." After the salmonella scare this summer, I couldn't keep any of my eggs around - Everyone wanted them.

If she couldn't serve the eggs because of "rules" then she likely wouldn't be able to serve any of the foods. I have the feeling it was all in the directors head.

Local school district is not allowed to serve anything homemade for like the last decade. Now the preschools (headstart) have gone to no food allowed for birthdays/holidays at all.

Our HeadStarts found a way around it for bdays....with 2 weeks notice, the cooks will order in all of the supplies needed to make the cake or whatever the parents requested and then the parent comes in that morning or the day before and makes/bakes the item there in the HS kitchen with all of their ingredients.

Take that crazy-rule-making-people! lol

There is a book It Takes a Village Idiot by Jim Mullen--about a guy moving upstate from NYC in which he tells how a visiting kid picked up an apple from under his tree and started to eat it. The mother made him spit it out because, in her words, he didn't know where it came from. Sound familiar? funny book BTW, especially if you live in the country.

Question... did the director bother to ask where the PIG for the sausage came from??

Hehe... I don't know that I could resist calling up later and letting them know that I'd raised it just to put a knot in their knickers.

Hopefully the kids got the lesson... all different but all worthwhile... rather than all different but if you're TOO different you're thrown in the trash and replaced by one The Big Kahuna deems worthy.
