Horse manure on gardens question

Just one word of caution: If you feed bermuda hay, NEVER put fresh manure in your garden bed. Aged manure is fine. I made the mistake last year of dumping a load of fresh, right-out-of-the-stalls manure in my strawberry bed and it grew so much bermuda that it smothered all the strawberries! The more I dug it out, pulled it, mowed it, the faster and thicker it grew. This year I moved the bed to the other side of the garden because the grass is so thick in the old spot that it just wasn't worth all the effort it would have taken to turn it.

Hubby told me a little earlier that he has used it fresh right on the garden with no problems. I know the woman who owns the horse uses a mixed hay and alfalfa hay don't know if that makes a difference. To bad she don't use bermuda the horse pens could use the grass back in it.
