Horse people- need advice

Corey,

OMG, love the facility, or land I should say. Up here in NY we don't get to use the trails and such year round. I wish I lived just a little further south. I would end up in debt if I had land...my daughter would convince me to adopt every horse around, she's such a sucker! So am I though.
I can't wait to start riding again....

How pretty, no wonder you enjoy it there. I am about 2 1/2 hours from there but never hurts to keep you ears open.

wow, that brings up memories... I used to do hunter paces out of Quailroost back when I was in grad school. Beautiful area. I miss it!

I also recommend a TWH. If they're properly trained they have WONDERFULLY smooth gaits, easy transitions, etc. In fact, in a lope (or canter) on a properly trained TWH, you feel almost like you're on a rocking horse. Good luck with your search!

Good for you to get back into riding again. I want to also give a high sign for gaited horses. I have a standardbred that was on the track and then sold to ride. He is a wonderful mount. Very smooth, and not spooky which I think is partially due to having been around so many odd things when racing.

I know a lady that is looking for a good home for a TWH mare, she just contacted us yesterday. The mare is older, but she is dead broke. She also has a buckskin gaited qh cross that is broke to ride, but not dead broke, kids ride him though.

pm or email me if you're interested.

yeah i would say call your local farrier and ask about any rescue farms in the area......so many horses go in and out different breeds, age, experience etc. you would find something......

Just an update and a thank you to all who have responded. I have made several contacts who are looking for prospects for me. Have found several on the online horse ads but have put them off for now because I am looking at a nice 12yo quarter mare, personal horse of the local horseman's association. Has used her for everything- trails, hunting, babysitting. Been there, done that attitude. Will try riding her sometime soon. My only concern with her is that she is larger than my previous horse who was barely 15H, this girl is a stout 16 hands. Am hoping size is not going to intimidate me as I really need some confidence getting back up in the saddle.
The good (or bad, depending on how you look at it) thing is I measured my barn yesterday and I easily have room for at least 5 stalls with turn out. My workman is coming today to figure out how we want to set it up.

Looks like you are on the way to solving your problem but I did want to mention craigslist...believe it or not but I have seen horses for free on there, so check it out...oh and S6bee mentioned the Tennessee Walker...don't know about riding one I do kow that hands down that is the most beautiful animal in the entire world and it takes my breath away to see one in their walker gait...wow, wow , wow, magestic and regal, gorgeous....
