Get a Peruvian Paso. They are the smoothest riding horse there is...

Other than that, just test every horse out you're interested in...have the owners let you catch it, brush it, saddle it, etc.

go to an auction in your area, people sell good horses all the time, be your own rescue, save a horse from a bad situation and take them home with you! I go to auctions when I have time, just to socialize and see whats out there. Have some fun.
