June is out of cow horses and honestly, she's a turd. Yes she is great for kids, and she is good for me, but put another adult on her and she refuses to listen. She also gets bored ridiculously fast and when she's bored she turns into a heifer.
Which is actually working for me, because I practice the same things all the time with her to build my confidence and when she gets bored and starts acting like a jerk I usually get mad at her, which makes me forget I'm scared, and in turn builds my confidence LOL we have a weird relationship.
And I played around with some calves on her a little bit one day and she was ready to rock and roll.
So cowhorses are good horses, tough and smart, but they can be jerks too! And they definitely want a real job, instead of just trails.
And honestly, I was not very impressed with either one of those horses that you found.
Maybe that's just me though, I'm pretty picky.
Technically speaking I'm not even impressed with my geldings, I would never pick them for myself to buy, I just happened to accidentally get attached.
And I love June to death, and I hate to say it, but I think my most impressive horse is going to be Jasmine.
June's great, but she's a mean little midget

Tbh even some horses not from cow horses are like that too though, right? And even some dogs, mostly working dogs. Some animals get extremely attached to their handler and will only work for them and personally, I don't really have a problem with that as long as they work for me. Though I can see how maybe in a lesson program or on a ranch where anyone should be able to take them out to work it could be a problem. Which begs the question, does she let other people on her for working cows etc if you've ever done that and is just bad like in the ring or is she bad for anyone no matter what it is? Just curious. And I've never owned an animal like that but I don't think I'd have much if any problem with it.

Yeah, non cow horses can be like that too, and there's cow horses that can be totally lazy and sweet as well. It just depends on the horse, their breeding is only part of it.
I just wasn't sure what you meant by "good horse", if you were wanting a family trail horse June wouldn't fit those needs, and she's given kids their first rides before but it's not something she could do all the time.
If you were meaning a good horses for doing lots of work, then yes.
I wanted to train June for reining because she's got some reining bloodlines but I honestly think she'd get bored with that too, because it's the same movements all the time. She would do best at being a cow horse, or doing ranch work, or maybe competitive trails.
She likes trails but doesn't like to do the same one twice, and she likes to go up hills, on roads, etc.
I just need to work on my confidence and riding skills so I can actually work her hard.
So it just all depends on your idea of what a "good horse" is!

Good cow horses are horses that are aggressive and are willing to take a hit. Even our old mare Bert can get hard to handle sometimes, and 3 year olds can handle get!
Good cow horses are meant to be on a ranch they want to have those different experiences. Old cow horses are awesome when it comes to little kids as they have done anything and everything you can imagine, as long as they aren't as high strung as when they were younger

Bo and Billy. Bo actally almost bucked someone off because he wanted to go a different way in 2016 and I know he's older then 10 in this picture.

Because they are herd animals, horses instinctively know how to move animals around, and I think most enjoy doing it. I know even my minis like to herd the goats around; Syd would make an awesome sheeppony!

I've often suspected that Latte may have cow lines; she is very nimble and quick. BB2K has sometimes played around and used Latte to herd Sunny, or vice versa. While Sunny makes a good cow pony, she makes a rotten cow; she goes pretty much where she wants to go, and just won't be pushed where she doesn't want to be. Even though Latte is the dominant animal, she is much easier to move around.

Mentioning moving Latte, BB2K had a funny thing happen with her the other day. Latte hadn't been worked for a while, and as it was windy, we knew she was going to be a handful, but BB2K wanted to mess with her anyway. Latte was indeed full of herself, bucking and rearing and playing up on the lunge line. Though we both thought that it looked a lot more like playful high spirits than "you can't tell me what to do," we also agreed that Latte couldn't be allowed to act like that in close quarters, so BB2K got on her case pretty good. Definitely got the Big Blonde's attention. When BB2K was satisfied that Latte was listening and doing what she was asked to do, she pretty much considered the lesson over and turned Latte loose. But Latte wasn't ready for the lesson to be over! She had "joined up," or "hooked up," or whatever you want to call it, and she began shadowing BB2K all over the paddock. Forward, back, moving her hindquarters or forequarters. tiny tight little circles; whatever BB2K asked, Latte was like, "yes, ma'am!" It was hard to say which of them was enjoying it more, but the horse could have left at any time, clearly, she was at least interested.
