Horse Talk

Ugh, I hate the days where all the horses decide to be stinkers! Hopefully you have better luck next time.
My horses have been pretty sweet lately, yesterday I whistled and they all came THUNDERING over the hill, which is super weird because I usually can't even get a slow walk out of one, let alone a lope out of all of them.
And I put June's bridle on in the pasture today (yeah, she's just soooo hard to catch) and then took it off and put a little pressure between her ears, and she about dropped her head right on the ground.
And Indie even let me scratch him for a while, after I grabbed him by the mane and pulled him to a stop lol.

I never realized Jasmine had prmitive markings!!!! (or is that June.... :hmm)

Smoke was being VERY polite this morning. All the little sibs friends were over and they went on a walk down to the creek - so me and SMoke went with them! XD I turned around and went back halfway, since he was getting.... loud, to say the least, but he behaved really well! I was so proud of his awesome ground manners and lack of spooking. :yesss:

Thank you! And that is Jasmine, she's dunalino :love
And that's great!
She is SOOO gorgeous. :love Smoke has epic markings like that too. He's even got a cross on his whithers! :th

Yeah! I was really happy with him. Maybe I can convince Esther to bring Ginger next time....

I love Smokes color!
I wish Jasmines marking were more defined but the palomino part of her color (idk how to word that?) dilutes them. They are pretty defined for a dunalino though. And she's got the most perfect build. She's one beautiful horse, she actually is a lot prettier in person, I can't wait to see how she looks in another year

Mine gets bad in the winter, the horses don't move much and the ground is muddy, I get mine trimmed every 7-8 weeks, but I trim the mini not my farrier, so sometimes he misses a trim due to him not standing for me or having someone hold him, so skipping a trim in winter can get them pretty bad... Probably close to that point. 14 weeks? Its not super fast, but its not years or anything.
Thank you! This makes me feel A lot better knowing it's not unusual, and it isn't "Animal abuse" or "Animal neglect", that she may be coming up on her trim-time. Thanks!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about goats, but horse hooves grow faster in spring and early summer when the grass comes in, also, they stay soft and don't wear away like normal when the ground is wet (standing in mud etc). I WOULD keep an eye on it, and it might not be a bad idea to say something about her feet looking a little rough from all the spring growth and see what their response is. That way you're not blaming THEM on the feet looking bad, you're saying her feet grew like weeds and it's something that happens sometimes. If you get an answer along the lines of "yeah, we know, farrier is coming out next week" then it's just a case of the feet took off and they just didn't guess right when making the appointment, if you get something like "eh, they always look that way" then you might want to be more concerned.

I know if someone commented on Pippin's (my mini) feet, I would explain that he's founder prone and as such his toes grow FAST and with all the mud and grass that they just got out of hand but that I am slowly working on getting them back into shape so that I don't damage the internal structures of his hooves by making any changes too fast. If you get an explanation with some thought behind it I wouldn't worry about it.

Let us know how her hooves look in a few weeks.

I do too. He is literally the EXACT COLOR OF DIRT. SO easy to "clean." :lau :lau :lau

I think I gotcha. *looks up dunalino*
Oh geez, I can hardly imagine. :love

When you're a little bit hungry :lau

Oh, and I guess June reeeeaally missed me the month they were gone, cuz every time she sees me she trots to me now. I pulled up today and got out of my car and she trotted to the fence and shoved the other horses out of the way and flung her head over and rubbed her nose all over me :love
