Horse x shetland pony mix??

Your shetland and QH must not have read the posts that conclude "IT WILL NEVER WORK' lol

I think those crosses can either nick very nicely or really bad. If that cross produced such a nice pony would have been nice to keep that going.

Great ponies are hard to come by and worth their weight in Gold.

I didn't see anything that said it will never work. Everything I saw indicated it could go either way. I sure wish someone had written to my (maiden) Welsh pony and reminded her that there was a study out regarding how big she was supposed to let the foal get! I still think it's a risk not worth taking. Could go great just isn't good enough.

Good ponies are absolutely worth their weight in gold!

All good Hippie I was just teasing a bit. I tried to be clear in all my posts that I was making no reccomendations simply stating a fact. And clearly stated that one should check with a professional before embarking on a program that might create a risk. That is all

I know there was a champion Half shetland and I think 1/4 thourabred and 1/4 arabian that was big in jumping even though he was so small. I cant remmber what magazine it was in to get the specifics but he competed and was very successfull competing with the huge warmbloods.

the Paso stallion was about 14 hands or so and the mini mare was an oversized mare roughly around 38 inches but thinks taller. The mare had papers but it was of wrong size. The sire had produced foals that reached no taller than 14.2 at maturity.

The paso pony was beautiful and she sold him to a Shetland Pony breeder who wanted to try and get paso gaits on his ponies.

Horse x pony crosses has been around for a long time and it is a few cases something goes wrong with the foal sizes at birth.

Then there's the aspect of the horse overpopulation crisis. Why on earth would someone intentionally cross wildly different breeds to get random results? Breed good mares to good studs or leave well alone, IMHO. There's enough trash out there as it is.
