YALL, I might be getting a horse FINALLY. We’ve been offered an even trade, our lawnmower for an Arabian mare (as funny as that is😆) she’s about 14 yrs old and will be my first horse ever. I hope we get her, we have the infrastructure in place already (4 acre pasture and a cozy stall in a massive barn) and no shortage of hay.
YALL I finally got a horse. It wasn’t the Arabian, I picked up an appendix gelding for FREE and his saddle, the rest of his hay and grain, ALL for free, the guy was soooo nice!! My dream has come true!! I’m the girl in the middle lol, don’t mind the ugly smile😆

He’s cute! Is there a reason he was free?
Yes, he guy had him on an eighth of an acre, way too small for a horse and his daughter lost interest pretty quickly after him getting the horse plus he felt bad that the horse had to be alone on that small property. He was SPOILED rotten, he’s in great condition other than his feet.

I imagine if they're not known, they will be in time.

Sometimes people just get in a bind though and would rather they go to a good home.
This^. I was helping a friend look at a horse and there was this gorgeous young chestnut with lots of chrome in the pasture. I commented on him and the guy showing us the other horse said that the chestnut gelding was his wife’s favorite horse that they bred on the farm, but two years before she took off with her lover leaving only a note. He said he kept the gelding (now a 3 year old) hoping one day she would come back, but never did. I asked if I could go look at him he said “sure, but he usually doesn’t bother with people. He was very attached to my wife.”. I walked over and the gelding came right up to the fence. We ended up haltering him up and I brushed him down while my friend was in the test riding the horse she came to look at in the round pen. The guy kept commenting on how well the gelding was responding to me and he hadn’t seen him peek up like that since his wife. Later when we went to leave he asked “do you want him?” I said that I probably did not have anywhere near what he was worth in my bank account. He said “Give me $200 and I’ll write you a bill of sale.” I had the vet look him over when we got home and the vet could not believe how flawless his conformation and health were. I later ran into a mutual friend of that man and I. Danny said they were surprised he let that horse go, but after he sold him to me it was like the man was finally able to move on from his wife. That gelding ended up best horse I have ever owned or ridden.

That’s exactly what happened, the guy had plenty of money to take care of him but felt bad cause he was alone and in such a small space
Aww well at least they recognized that and rehomed him instead of just letting him rot or anything.

That's beyond sweet. ❤️
