Oh wow that is an amazing story!!!This^. I was helping a friend look at a horse and there was this gorgeous young chestnut with lots of chrome in the pasture. I commented on him and the guy showing us the other horse said that the chestnut gelding was his wife’s favorite horse that they bred on the farm, but two years before she took off with her lover leaving only a note. He said he kept the gelding (now a 3 year old) hoping one day she would come back, but never did. I asked if I could go look at him he said “sure, but he usually doesn’t bother with people. He was very attached to my wife.”. I walked over and the gelding came right up to the fence. We ended up haltering him up and I brushed him down while my friend was in the test riding the horse she came to look at in the round pen. The guy kept commenting on how well the gelding was responding to me and he hadn’t seen him peek up like that since his wife. Later when we went to leave he asked “do you want him?” I said that I probably did not have anywhere near what he was worth in my bank account. He said “Give me $200 and I’ll write you a bill of sale.” I had the vet look him over when we got home and the vet could not believe how flawless his conformation and health were. I later ran into a mutual friend of that man and I. Danny said they were surprised he let that horse go, but after he sold him to me it was like the man was finally able to move on from his wife. That gelding ended up best horse I have ever owned or ridden.
