I see people going down the road with there dogs tied in the back of pickup trunks. Not really a problem they are tied. But the bed liners are black and very hot. Someone said "Ya just can't fix stupid".

Just as a sad note about tying dogs in the bed of trucks. When I was a kid, we had a collie that managed to get his back legs over the side of the pickup, and broke his neck. Outside of hogtying a dog, there is no way to tie a short enough lead to safely transport a tied dog in a pickup bed.
To this day it is one of my worse childhood memories. I can still see it.
The irony is it happened in the vets driveway.

I used to work in a vet clinic, we had many dogs DOA or needing to be euthanized because of accidents that happened when riding in the back of a truck. Some were tied, some were not.
If you really HAVE to carry the dog in the back, put it in a cage or carrier that is secured to the truck. Don't stop to shop, get where you're going asap.

I am glad you mentioned that....
My moms dog is ummmm lets say VERY excited about being in a vehicle he jumps and barks at everything bounce bounce bounce... the problem is he is a 100lb chow huskyX so hes not small and i flip out on my dad everytime he goes to take the dog in the back of the truck without my wire crate. I have now told my parents anytime that dog needs to go anywhere I will take him I have a XL wire crate that is secured in the bed of my pick up BUT I also have a cap on my truck so he is protected from the elements. I have a small fan thats wired into the window to allow circulation and i also have the sliding doors that connect the cab of my truck to the bed so he gets the ac too... funny thing happens when he is in my truck... he calms down and understands its time to chill...

Thank you for making me feel like I'm not insane for carrying my 30-pound, seven-month-old pup across the blacktop to get to the grass and sidewalk. (He's also known as Gordie Howethe half-Schnauzer wonder-mutt). My fiance thought I was crazy and babying the dog for carrying him across the pavement when I noticed it was really hot one day a few weeks ago. On days that aren't so bad (75-85 degrees out) I try to walk across areas of the blacktop that are shaded, and make him walk quickly across areas that aren't (he knows the command "quick" now!), but it's 100 degrees today and there was no way I was letting him walk across the blacktop when he had to go out to pee at 3 in the afternoon. I am not insane, or a softie. Just protecting my pooch.
Here's his recent haircut, which I'm sure he also appreciates in this weather.
