Hot Flashes~~

You know, as long as you gave me books and decent food - that doesn't sound too bad at all....

Oh honey I feel you're pain

I went through "medically induced" menopause at the age of 30 due to having a complete hysterectomy, so... yeah. I've been on Premarin ever since though - but GETTING there

YEOW!

I still have issues and need to be adjusted every now and again. On top of that - I have no thyroid and have to take Synthroid and Cytomel - so ALL of my hormones are synthetic

Hubby and I still play the "heat up/heat down - air up/air down" game winter and summer - drives him nuts LOL

I'm nearly 51 and have been futzing with that mess since 38. I'm on the fence about what you say about it's "only natural." Yeah, it is ideally...but modern American life is far from ideal. We are exposed to so many environmental estrogens that blow our systems kaplooey. I can remember the first thing I noticed was starting a sentence and not remembering where I was going with it by the time I got to the end.

My main coping mechanism has been that "this won't last forever." That and a good supply of nighties. A good sense of humor is your best defense.

There's a woman in my office who's fighting it all tooth and nail...I feel extra bad for her that she can't be more accepting of it. My thing is: It is what it is...and I'll be relieved when it ain't.

Oh this is great. I'm 47 and am not looking forward to getting the menopause belly. I've always had a flat tummy, and when it starts to go, I'm just going to cry. For me, that will be worse than hot flashes. Needless to say, I'm wicked intense about ab and back work almost every day, trying to head the whole horrible prospect off at the pass.

Hennys - aren't the hormones supposed switch around so that women develop more of a fat retention pattern of a man's body (i.e. stomach as opposed to fanny and thighs)?
And it's the part of the belly below the belly button that I'm worried about.

After having a hysterectomy in '97 we (dh and I) suffered from the hot flashes (he the aftermath)for 11 years or so. I was on hormones for several years but then went off them. I simply cannot deal with them! I tried the Black Cohosh and it did not faze them. Then a neighbor told me about Dong Quai a herbal supplement. It really works for me!! I have used it for about 3 months now and if I do have a hot flash it is mild and maybe once a day if I have any.
Now Joe you have no business on this thread and I know poor Ann wants out of the bathroom. don't make us all come over there and back her up!!

I'd say we are all lucky Purple chicken hasn't joined Joe here or it would be worse.

PC wouldn't have a clue about all this - HIS wife is a cutie spring chick!

And Joe, I'd watch your back when you finally let Ann out.

With me, it's the memory thing. I'll walk into a room and go "huh?" than walk out and just start something else.

What's this with the belly thing? Buff - I think you're ahead of the game - if you're working that hard NOT to have a belly, you should be OK. It's us folks that let it go a little, now have to fight twice as hard to get rid of it. My flashes - I call them surges - a fewer as the months go, but I hate feeling hot and sweaty.

I noticed keeping active keeps them suckers away. I don't take anything, just waiting for my time to be done with it.

Joe, Joe, Joe.

I feel terribile for my poor DH. At east she used to be consistent - She was always cold (except in July).

Now she's cold one minute, then standing out on the deck when it's -5 to cool off, then back to cold...

It's gotta be tough. We men have it easy by comparison.
