I have five Mottled Houdan chicks that are almost 5 weeks old. I only plan to keep two and sell the other three, but I want to ensure I get at least one hen. If anybody could help me sex them it would be greatly appreciated.
#1 & 4 look like they'll be roosters.
The puff is higher and you can see the lower wattles growing faster. (red flaps under the beak)
My boy has a much larger puff, but that was just luck I think. His comb was much more red and the parts under the chin were obvious much earlier also.
Hope this helps.
1 is the only roo I see, but #4 is suspicious. I'll need to see a side view. I have sexed my mottled houdans at 2 weeks old based on crest, nares and feathering. My boy was slower to develop feathers, had a crest like # 1 and nares like #4.
My pullet Skittles @ 3 weeks I found the girls had crests that stuck straight up in the air. They feathered out on their crests before the boy. I had three, one was sat on by a puppy and died.
