Houdans

Pics
Oh how pretty, I can't wait to see what my two chickie doos look like.

Your female's not just different in each side of her crest, but her beard too.  Is she different on her body one side from the other too?

How much do you think they weigh???
At 4 months, I would compare them to a barred rock in weight (same age) they are much bigger than the easter eggers. I'll have to check their weight sometime. They are very heavy though!

Her beard is fine. It could just be the picture. The crest is what is weird. It's off to one side like it's to heavy. Her body is the same on both sides. Are we talking colour or posture? She has fine posture.

Not posture just feather color / texture / density.

She is very pretty I wasn't meaning she was mis shapen or anything.

If its just her top knot I wonder if she has the chicken equivalent to a "cow lick"

I'll post some more of her and you can see what you think :p

See how her top hat goes to one side? She doesn't hold her head crooked, it's only the feathers or the loose skin on her head that is hanging to the right.

This is just a couple of weeks ago.

few weeks before that..

When it started to get heavy she was around 6 weeks old

Her top knot is definately heavier feathered on the one side, the uneven feathering I thought I was seeing in the beard was just lighting and angle, but I still think I see more white mottling on her back on the side that has more topknot feathers. I don't know if it is connected or even what it is. How many houdans do you have? It would be intersting to see if it is hereditary. Are you going to hatch from her?

When they were young did you notice a definate differanc in the size of the male vs female?

My one w/ the V feathering on her head is quite a bit bigger then the one w/ the splotch of black on her head. And her splotch looks alot like your girls when she was young, so wondering if that is pointing to a boy and a girl for me????

I knew right away that Gigi was a boy (or so I think i did) his nares were much bigger, his crest was growing back when the girls were growing straight up, and he was much slower to feather. Oh and he as heavier by 2 weeks.

the picture on the other side you are talking about was 3 weeks younger than the one you see with all the mottling. Her mottling is even all around (except on the chest and back) they seem to have a lot of mottling on their chest and not enough on their back.

Cool they are both beautiful and will make awesome chickies. I have one that is alot bigger, but the smaller one has less of a tail, both seem to be feathering the same.

Aoxa, Would you take a look at the pics of my birds back on page 20 of the thread. I have 3 and I thought I have 2 girls and a boy but one of the "girls" is changing a little more and looking like a boy. I just can't decide. "She" is my avatar (7weeks old) and she is the last pic on the 11 week old pics. I am unsure as her crest began very smooth but is now filling in a little spikey. She is also the same size as the male and is getting nubs of a comb and reddening of the face where my girl has no comb or face color. Any thoughts?
