Well I'm definitely getting a batch from Cackle because of the deal they cut me, but I will consider a batch from McMurray as well. It would be interesting to raise them out side by side.

Cant see it but it gor stepped on and cracked the other side.
Here's hoping for some more and larger ones soon.
 
Modern chickens needs 14 hours light per day (consistently) in order to stimulate their reproductive system. kind of tricking them into thinking "hey, its Spring". It can occur on less light in breeds bred specifically for egg production but this is the rule to get, or keep, birds in production through the winter months.

I get that, but it has never affected my young pullets. Usually they lay without any additional lighting.
