I think that as wild as this sounds, a little money goes a long way... especially when its a little from a lot of folks. I don't know if its okay to post this here, but it is about replacing chickens and eggs and hay and food and materials and and and.... purpose. I've been through fires twice and there just aren't words. I am happy to pay pal funds to you and maybe others could. There is a lot of work in shopping and rebuilding but maybe having some financial support from your friends and 'friends' would keep you moving? Maybe we could get you some more eggs from Kevin by paying him? Usually I think money is a 'cheap' way to show you care but this time....
And I am glad you two are unharmed. Its a blessing that might go uncounted when there are so many losses to tally.

I just don't know how I am going to do it without the support. We have spent every penny we had to start up. I just put my last paycheque towards breeding pens and a month worth of feed for 140 animals. All lost in the fire.

I have 14 chicks in the basement. Lots of them are mixed, but because they came from my beloved pet flock, we want to cherish them and build them a little coop until our barn is rebuilt. We have nothing for them. Just some playpens that they are outgrowing quickly. We were going to move them to the barn the day the barn burnt down, but we were too exhausted after finishing our breeding pens to bother. Can you imagine? I wouldn't have a single thing left.

This all just feels like a terrible nightmare we can't wake up from.

I don't want this to sound wrong in light of what happened, only I want to suggest it anyway.
A friend in our poultry community close to home here lost her barn to fire last year. Like you, she was left with a few birds that were in breeding pens that were away from the fire. She decided rather than rush in and start rebuilding immediately, to take a step back and take a breathe. This way she was able to plan things out for the better.

IDK how insurance works up there but if you happen to have any receipts, esp that last one, the insurance company will cover it. You must have records, I know as an accountant you would think to keep them

I am very glad to hear people want to help. Its in part because of the beautiful pictures you took of beautiful animals but its also about how you are a kind and beautiful person. I have Kevin's information so I could offer to get in touch with him on my own if you want. I hope you have someone to help clean up all the 'mess,' since I know what that will mean. I never thought I would miss seeing a frizzle or frilkie or whatever that little chicken you had was... George? It was your pictures that did it. Maybe you could print and sell a few? Gosh, I wish I had more than words for you right now.

Have you seen DMRipey's breeder pen ideas in here? They are pretty fast and easy and CHEAP to make. I think they would work out really well for a quick set up for a mixed/smaller flock:

Yes we are taking a step back until our barn is rebuilt. Right now we are just trying to take care of what we have left. 14 chicks that are between 6-8 weeks old. Plus one bantam Ameraucana hen that was brought inside because she jumped in some water two weeks ago and suffered frostbite on her feet. One toe is pretty rough, but I saved the rest. Anyway..

I am pretty sure that people will help you get the rare breeds you want again. I have to get a passport

Aoxa, always seeing a freindly post and a fun story was a real help, so pictures or not I would want to help.
If nothing else I'm sure a large number of us can either through financial support, or sparing a few birds help you rebuild the flock.
I'm sure it will never be the same, I know my little flock will never be the same again after losing half to a disease (nothing compared to your loss) but it does come back and eventually as enjoyable or more to keep.

It will be painful for a long time, but those pictures will be a nice lifeline. We're really grateful for what we took of our birds, and wish we had taken many more.

If there's anything I can help smuggle in from China or the US, just let me know. Next time I'm stateside I'll see what I can do.
Other than that I'm happy to make a donation to you, or a breeder so you can start rebuilding the flock when you feel ready.
