Houdans

I am not sure on his breeding season times. We bought our first at the very beginning of March and our last at the very beginning of August and all of his birds were loose when I was there.. so he was done hatching at that point.

Well we can both get in contact with him and get the details. You have a car, I have a barn ;). We can make this happen!

Aoxa, please keep us informed of any fund that gets set up for you. I have not had direct communication with you, but like so many, I have read your posts and learned so much from you. I would like to do something to help. Distance only allows me to give monetary assistance. :hugs

Lilwanis,

A friend has set up a fund to help us rebuild our flock and set up housing for the ones we have in the basement. All that info is on our Facebook page (in my signature).

I am overwhelmed with all the amazing support. It means a lot.

Thank you for the link. I have done what I can. Good luck!

I have to announce this here as well...
aoxa,

I am so, so , so, sorry. I just read. Prayers & huggs.

Hello all, unfortunatly we are going to have to find Zeus, our Houdan roo, a new home. If anyone knows anyone nearby that might be interested, please have them contact me. I tried to set up a classified for him but I already have one classified and it says that is all I am allowed? I find that odd.

Anyway, roo for sale!

He's beautiful, but sneaky. We aren't going to do a breeding program and currently have 3 roos of different breeds. As I had said before, he and the silkie go at it all the time and have each drawn blood on the other. Topping it off, Zeus is becoming more agressive with me and my hubby when we go to feed. If we didn't have jeans and boots, I am sure we would have damage to the backs of our legs by now. He has never been agressive to our kids but I am afraid it will happen. If I had the space and the plan to breed with him I would seperate and pen him elsewhere but we run a mixed flock and I can't walk backwards every time I am in the pen. My hubby is really tired of it.

Have you tried the stick treatment yet?

IE: Follow him around for a while and tap him with a stick.

Worked wonders for Gigi.

I am totally hooked on my "water boarding" idea for an aggessive roo. My Oreo had been a great roo not aggressive at all until this past summer when he lost his mind and started attacking me, I would have eaten him except I didn't have a gun yet (my preferred way of dispatching) so out of despitation, and rage the last day he attacked me and put a hole in my leg, I was gardening and had the water hose w/ a nozzel on jet and everytime he looked at me I would spray on jet aiming for his head and would continue to spray until he was out of water range. Now in all honesty my goal was to drown him and make myself feel better (I was very mad and bleeding) anyway it didn't drown him he would run from me for months afterward and has not attacked me since.

I have 2 Houdan roos that have been together free range for 8 months. They are stuck together like glue-buddies. What are the chances of them getting along if I add some hens? Big ones?

Well I'd love to give you concrete advice, but...
It really depends on their dynamics. Each roo is a little different and just like people the best of brothers can be split up by a woman. Hello Helen of Troy.
Usually they will sort it out fast and so long as you dont give two boys only one (or in rooster terms 4) to share you should see them come to terms with it, just watch the ladies.
If its under 4 birds per roo they might get a little bare or ruffled until the boys settle the mating order out.
Houdans take family dynamics really well compared to other breeds I know, so good luck with your boys.

Puddin I'd take him in a minute, they do airmail?
I'll pay shipping!
