House Chickens

My wife wouldn’t tolerate having a chicken in the house unless it was going to be dinner that night. We even take our shoes off before we enter the house. The dogs are outside animals. We just place a lot of emphasis on cleanliness. Diapers for chickens what will they think of next?

We have a house chicken her name is Spinner. She is our special needs chicken, when she gets scared she starts spinning in circles, she is a tiny banty cochin, who also started out life with a crooked beak, but we got that fixed. Spinner comes in at night explores the kitchen and living room spends time with our parrot and our dogs and cats and then goes into her dog carrier in a baby gated and newspaper covered area in the kitchen for the night. She spends most of her days on our deck and under our pine tree, occasionally she will venture out with the other chickens but always comes running when we call. She is the sweetest thing ever.

Thanks for all this wonderful info and stories! I am glad I am not the only one who wants or is doing this.
Scrambled Egg, your Doxie is so adorable. I think our Schnitzel would definately have a crush on her

FallenWeeble, what happened to your roo? How do the bunns act around him? Lucy (one of our rabbits) kept thumping when Carmilla got close to her but Peppermint, could have caredless.
COgirl, how did you get the crooked beak fixed? Her vet said that it couldn't be altered. Though now she will be going to my "doggie" vet.
I think its so great that so many of you guys have not only kept your special needs chickens but have found a place for them in your home. You guys are awesome!

This is Carmilla. I took it of her last night while she was sleeping nestled in my Nightmare Before Christmas comforter.

Carmilla's very cute...she looks like a cochin bantam to me...

I have house chickens. I also have mostly hardwood floors. I had one chicken that I could do the diapers on, but she's passed now. And my Leghorn would freak and I'd be spending my mornings trying to get it on her.

Actually she is not either of those. Her legs aren't feathered and she's a standard of whatever breed she is. Her "sister" that got stolen was a standard Cochin, which I am sure is why she got taken. No one had seen a chicken like her before and people always asked about her...just like our Turken and Sultans.
I posted up some new pix of her late last night on her MySpace so everyone could get a better look at her. Please take a look and tell me what you think. Her feathers have a green/purple hue to them too.
