Ok as most of you know we got Pippi a couple of weeks ago (we were told she is a schnauzer/poodle mix but i see yorkie in her with the schnauzer) anyway..

The lady we got her from worked LONG hours, she left Pippi in her kitchen with potty pads (i do NOT do this) she is crated when we are gone or cant watch her.

Here is the thing. I take her out to potty, she goes and sometimes more than once, and then we come inside, she PEES inside too! I mean we can be outside for 3 hours, come in and she will pee, its almost like she has it reversed! How do I correct this? Any hints tips or advice? I took up my HUGE braided rug as its expensive to have cleaned and I dont want her to ruin it!!

Oh she has limited water access, and she doesnt poo in the house so much as pee!

Here is the lil darling lol lol

How cute!!! I have 2 mini schnauzers and they can just be super difficult to house train. I would try treats when you take her out and see her go offer her a small treat and lots of praise. Both of mine are very motivated by food. Good luck!

Oh just another thought, she could have a urinary tract infection if she goes often and just a tiny amount. If you are concerned you might think about taking her to the vet. Schnauzers can have lots of urinary problems.

That thought crossed my mind but she holds it all night long with out any trouble (she sleeps with me, the chihuahua, the boxer, the cat, and my 4yr old on the nights my dh has to work) and on his off nights she sleeps in her crate as do all the others (except the cat and chi lol)

how big is her crate?...should just b big enuf to stand up and turn around in
she should be able to hold her bladder for - her age in months + 1 if she is a puppy still (i.e. my puppy is 3 months old so she can hold it for 4 hours
also...consistency is the key...after she eats plays or wakes up...take her out immediately....reward her when she goes outside....make sure u ask her to go before u come inside...then give her time to go...if she doesnt go...put her in her crate for 10-15 mins then go outside again
if u catch her in the act...stick her nose in it and take her outside and say go potty(or whatever your q-word is)
dont let her see u clean it up...to her that just means "ooo, i get attention when i do that"
clean it up w/ straight white vinegar....even if u have wood/vinyl floors...spray the area w/ vinegar and wipe up...it is the best for removing the "attracting" leftover pee smell
ummmm....thats all i can think of for now...make sure everybody in your house knows and plays by the same rules so she doesnt get confused
it will get easier...kansas was trained by 3 weeks...and girls are always easier...good luck

I have house trained all different breeds of dogs, and she just seems to be really confused from what the other lady did to what we are doing! My husband keeps saying that lady really screwed this dog up! I think I have to agree with him on this lol

Reward her as strongly as possible for all outdoor pottying. For most dogs, this means an exceptionally tasty food reward. I save table meats that are left over. I cut them in little pieces and keep a baggy of it in the freezer. When it's time to go out, get a couple tasty bits, go out, and wait for her to squat. When she does, stand close and say a word that you want to use to cue her to eliminate. I say "Go pee pee". You can say whatever you like. Some other favorites I've heard used are "get busy", "hurry up" etc. Repeat your word in a praise tone of voice with a smile on your face while she is going. When she is done, immediately praise her and give her the food treats.

Continue to manage her with crates, tying the leash to your belt, baby gates, etc, to miminize her mistakes in the house.

Most pups will have the idea that pee pee outside gets them delicious treats, while pee pee in the house gets nada in just a few weeks.

Good luck!

She is so adorable!

You said she is crated unless you are watching her. How closely are you watching her? Are you staring right at her all the time? Do you see her sniff the floor, first? I would do nothing but watch her closely, when she is out of the crate, especially for the first week or two of training, until you know she gets it. Leash her to you, if you need to.

When I see a puppy sniffing the floor or circling, I scoop them up and take them outside. I may also call their name to distract them from what they were about to do, until I get over there. I always calmly and firmly tell them "No" if they have an accident indoors, because I couldn't get over to them fast enough. I'm not trying to punish, just letting them know it's not something I want them to do. I then take them outside.

When I take them outdoors for their potty breaks, I tell them to go potty and praise like crazy when they do, so they know this is something I really like them to do out there. Any time I see them going to the bathroom when we are outside, I also use the "go potty" phrase and praise them like crazy.

It helps a lot to have an idea of how often your puppy needs to go and have her on a schedule of frequent breaks. They can't hold it very long when they're young. They do better at night, when they're asleep, than they do when they are moving around and active. During the day, they need to go out often. I also take them out after meals, drinking, and anytime they get up after napping. In the beginning, it takes a lot of trips and a lot of careful watching.

For times when they've been outside for a long time, just enjoying the day with us, I give them a reminder before we go inside. At the door, I will ask them if they need to go potty and take them back out to the grass. We walk around a bit and I ask a couple more times.

Really, I think she will do fine, once she understands what you want and learns a little more English, so you can communicate better. I'm sure she wants to please you and learn what you want, she just doesn't have that figured out, yet.

Oh I can be looking RIGHT at her and she will just stop and squat and pee, no amount of yelling (if I cant reach her) will stop her midstream lol

example, she went outside and peed at 11:50, and noon my daughter yelled Pee, I cleaned it up and as I was going to the trash can she ran to the door, so I let her out, she peed outside so of course i made a huge deal out of what a good girl she is and gave her a treat.
