I don’t have ducks really don’t know much about them. It could be just simple frustration...especially if they witnessed the attack. I don’t know how long your drake has been gone but it could be just a struggle for dominance since your drake is gone.
Im sorry that you lost your drake it just awful.
Your girls may be even seeking reassurance after the event. Sexual behavior has a lot to do with acceptance and reassurance.

It will be a week tomorrow and yes, they did witness the attack but had the good sense to huddle up in their pen terrified. I think I may keep checking on Craig's list to see if someone has a drake they want to rehome.

just looked and there aren't any around here but with Craig's list the important thing is to keep checking and eventually it will be there!

I don't think another duck is needed, however, in spring, there always seem to be drakes in need of a home and it might be nice to give one a place to live out his days and his own flock to tend to.

Yes, I have three Pekin drakes that need rehoming or a trade maybe. I'll give you two drakes for one duck

4 hens and 2 drakes and the girls still take turns mounting each other anyway.

No, but someday I hope I will. My husband's dream was to have a lot of land and mine is to have alot of animals. We got the land we just need to get it fixed up first .
