HI EVERYONE

I have been a long time backyard chicken thread stalker, but this is my first post!

so I have 8 chickens and 1 rooster. Me and my son are trying to hatch some eggs so we bought the hovabator 2370!

My questions is:

The temperature on the hovabator is at 99.5 - 100 degrees for setting the eggs. It has been sitting fine at this temp for the past 3 days. I have 3 different temp/hygrometers in the bator right now (not inculding than the hovabator manufacturer temp gauge). The hygrometer i have taped at the top that is placed at the top is like dead on with the hovabator temp. the ones at the bottom (other 2) by the automatic turners and eggs are saying 96 degrees? I am wondering if this is normal for the bottom of the incubator to register 4 degrees colder? the incubator is forced air so I was assuming it would disperse the temp evenly??

Should I put the temp of the main hovabator temp control higher so the temps on the bottom of the incubator reach the 99.5? or is it fine with only the top of the incubator being at the 99.5? I'm real confused?

I appreciate any help!!!!

Welcome to BYC! Did you calibrate the thermometers and salt test the hydrometers? Don't trust any of them if they have not been tested yet. The temp by the eggs should be reading 99.5 degrees. How many days have they been being incubated for?

salt test? o man... that sounds intense.... these are just some hygrometers I got off amazon... they said they were good to go out of the box.... I do think their accurate though because I have put all of them up to my thermostat (nest) and they all calibrate within 5 minutes accurately....

Is it normal for a circulated air incubator to be so off on temperature from bottom of the incubator to the top? Its like a 5 inch difference? So should I crank it up until the thermometers on the bottom match 99.5??

No they're going to have to be calibrated, and the hydrometers salt tested. All thermometers/hydrometers claim to be accurate, but they rarely are. It's very easy to calibrate them though, and then you'll know they're right. You can't change the temp yet because the thermometers may be wrong. I gtg, but maybe @EmmaRainboe can see if she can help you find the instructions for calibration? She's still online. It's pretty late here.

thanks for all your help! if there is a thread too on calibrating you can send i would love to read up!!
