How about a new thread for those of us in wheelchairs?

Hi guys! I'm not immobilized, but I'm a great fan of simplifying things and using products for other things than their intended purpose, so I thought I'd follow this thread.

The vacuum system seems like a good idea, but I'm a bit worried about feed and spent bedding going through the same system.

The kids jeep looks like a good idea. ATV's are worth looking into too.

spent bedding would be vacummed up with a shop vac... of some sort. The feed and fresh bedding would be blown in with a leaf blower. I dont know if I differentiated that when I talked about it before... Though the PVC extensions for delivery and removal would be the same for the bedding. The delivery system for feed would only be to the feed bins With a dedicated hopper for delivery.

Hmmm..... Big vacuum systems also are out there for removing horse maneur from pastures.... They hook like a wagon on the back of a lawn tractor.... but they are very expensive to buy.... It would be simple to build a trailer or modifiy an existing trailer to recive a good sized motor do create a vacuume. for cleaning corrals.... Same trailer setup could be hooked to do dual duty for the coop.

I think my workhorse for my house will be a good quality Garden tractor... eventually. Something with off road wheels because my land is on many levels and many different surfaces from sandy to hard pack.

I am thinking out loud here stuff I haven't considered before (the vacuum trailer specifically)

I just got an idea for a raised coop. You could have a floor that could be tilted down to dump all the spent bedding into a trailer or wheelbarrow. Of course the vacuum system would have the benefit of it being possible to clean only the spots that are soiled the worst, while the tilting floor would dump everything.

And if someone is looking for something to help with daily cleaning at home, I can warmly recommend Neato robot vacuums. We have three dogs, and ours does a round every day and is filled with dog hair after doing it's daily clean up.

Quote: main difference between the two is the sweetheart gate allows for the ability to fully open the gate normally for carts, driving animals, etc. The second is mostly an easier way to get past a fence than climbing over.
Oh, and there is a modified version that works for sheep. Don't have a diagram but you could google it.

While I can walk short distances I am not real steady on my feet. I use an ECV when I go to the store, flea market, auctions, etc. I have 2 different ones - one loads into the trunk of the car and works good in the store on even, level ground/flooring. The other is basically all terrain and will go almost everywhere, it is fast and I can do an entire day at Disney and have a charge left. Here however my DH bought me the best "toy" in the world a Kawasaki Mule. I can pull up to the chicken tractors and feed and water from my seat as well as collect eggs. It is the greatest thing ever allowing me to check fencing, feed livestock and anything else I need to.

Being able to putter around the house would be so helpful....

I am blessed that I am still pretty mobile. I can do grocery shopping etc. with drugs

just don't move so well later. Don't take the added painkillers around the home place, just need to be careful (took a nasty fall in the spring) I hate taking drugs, take enough chemicals already to keep the Leukemia at bay, what I have been doing is picking up mobility aids in advance when I come across a good deal. Now, hmmm, I guess I had better add a Gator to that list! Hadn't thought of that before, thanks!

I have a Legend XL made by Pride. That model is no longer made but they make a comparable one. I also have a smaller one for putting around the store or house but cannot remember the model. The Legend flies and you do have to watch the speed on rough ground. I use it at auctions, the flea market, the fair, ect.
