How best to install overhead netting?

Well, I do too, but thinking about trying to net it is crazy.
My problem where I live would be the predators in the trees if I had that many. We have Racoons and a lot of hawks and some owls that would still try to get through my netting I am afraid. That is why my pen is up next to my house. I have large trees behind the pen where they have hung out before but never attempted to try to get into it thank heavens.

Definitely. Photo makes it look worse than it is though; the netting will stop short of some of those trees.

I have bantams and a bunch of hawks nearby, so the extra protection is not optional.

Once it's all put together I'll get some more photos up!
Would love to see your progress with this project. Attaching the netting to trees, what are you using?

My netting is attached to the bottom of my one weeping cherry tree but unfortunately the tree has died this past winter. Therefore I will go out and cut the small branches off of it and put poles up and attach my netting to them and the big trunk of the tree. That should work for me.

It was a huge pain; aart was right! I got it done eventually though.

I used one tree near the center as my main tent pole, and installed an eye bolt 12 feet up or so, then ran 12g nylon monofilament out to the trees on the edge that support my fence. Then I hung the net over the lines like a circus tent and stretched it taut.

The trees on the outside perimeter had eyebolts about 6-7 feet high already, as I used them to install the deer fencing that comprises the border of the run.

I had to sew the edges of the net to the edge of my fence, and sew up all the holes that I had to cut in order to work it around my trees. Fun fact, hawks will work their way into your run if you haven't finished sealing all the holes (found out the hard way).

I used hog rings and that tarred weatherproof string sold for netting repairs to attach the net where it needed attaching.

Yes, woodland hawks specialize in getting between things it seems, sorry for your loss there. But you did a nice job! Great shade for the chickens. There seem to be more photos and comment in the reply quote than shows up in your post, very strange!
