My chicken book just says I have to treat it but doesn’t say how lol.

What do you find it the best way to treat coop/bird?

Coop’s wooden btw

Thanks

I haven't had to treat yet. But if and when I do, I have Elector PSP. But it is quite pricey.

Others go with permethrin spray for the coop and birds. This has to be repeated in 10 days to kill what hatches from the eggs that don't get killed in the initial treatment.

I've never had a problem until recently when several hens went broody all at once.
Here's what I did...
1) Removed everything from the coop,
Shavings, nesting boxes, etc.
2) Pressure washed coop, nesting boxes,
roosts, etc.
3) Apply Elector PSP ($159 on Amazon) to
entire coop, nesting boxes, cracks and
crevices, roosts and allow to dry.
4) Using a spray bottle I sprayed the hens
at the base of their feathers with Elector
PSP mixture especially around vent.
5) Replaced shavings and nesting pads
with fresh, new materials.

It may seem like a lot but it certainly was worth it. It is my understanding that red mites are very hard to get rid of.
Good luck!

P.S. Elector PSP is safe for you and your birds, unlike permetherin.
