Yesterday I found a duckling of mine was weak and not able to walk. I separated him from the other ducks and it seems that his mother had stepped on his head. He is still unable to walk and seems very weak. I am not sure if I can feed him regular multivitamins, so i have refrained from vitamins at the moment. He has no been eating much and is still finding it hard to sit up without toppling over. He is unable to hold his head up and is sitting in a very comfortable way. If you have any tips that would be appreciated.

Maya, your little chick probably suffered brain damage from getting its head stepped on. But I admire you for wanting to try to save it. Just prepare yourself that this little baby may die.

Warm sugar water would be the first thing to try. You can try holding the baby upright and dipping its beak in the warm sweet water. Let it drink as much as it will.

For neurological issues, we treat them with vitamin E 400iu. You might have it on hand. Break the capsule open and squeeze the oil into the side of its beak. Then try to get it to eat some soft boiled egg. Do this every day.

If you can, get some Poultry Nutri-drench from the feed store. It has the kind of vitamins a sick baby duck needs.

Could you post a few pictures of the duckling?

Regardless of what the problem may be, I would start off by moving the duckling into a warm, towel-lined area, with a soupy duckling starter provided in a shallow dish to prevent possible aspiration or drowning.

I agree with Azygous, starting her on a poultry vitamin, or vitamin E soft gel capsules would be a good idea. I would also suggest getting some vitamin Cattle Injectable B complex, and try incorporating a drop or two into her diet once a day, overfeed, or along her bill. Scrambled eggs would also be good to offer. Weighing her on an accurate small gram scale would be advised so you can track her approximate weight, and see if she is losing, or gaining weight.

Let us know how she does.

Ok thanks. I will try my best.
