How can I find a butcher?

That's a fine decision to make. But really it isn't that hard. Yes you may feel bad, but don't think like your sending these birds to their death. You are giving them a wonderful life, much better then the grocery birds have and they thank you by putting food on your table. I wish you the best in whatever decision you make.

I'd just like to encourage you to try it. IF you can find an old hand to show you, that's best.
I'm a brand new chicken lady, 6 months in- basically a city girl. I learned how to do it - thanks to an excellent teacher.

Not everyone is up to it mentally to do it. I was just talking with my husband about getting an order from a hatchery that has a sale on them now for @30cent each. He said great but only if I would do the killing and clean of it. HE just can not do it and we have had chickens for a while. HE can not even hunt! He just can not bring himself to kill a living thing and even if I killed it he could not clean it. If it were back in time and he needed to hunt for his family we would go without! He does not mind cleaning the poop out of the coop or helping build one or cleaning up after messes but just don't ask him to see blood or an animal being processed. I am SO glad my boys like to hunt and will help be process for the freezer. My question about taking it to a processor or butcher does that take away from anything you have saved in raising your own birds? What is a typical charge for having a chicken totally done for you???

30 cents! what hatchery was that?

Ask at your feedstore and do you have an Amish community nearby? We have several and you can take your chickens there one day and pick them up the next. They are reasonably priced too.

Although I did mine and you can too. The worst part is the unknown but once you get past the actual killing part, it's just meat

We've begun looking for someone to process our extra roos - but I find myself wishing I had an "an old hand" to show me how. My husband kept chickens during his 1st marriage and is now adamant that butchering birds is not his idea of a weekend well spent. One of my sisters family hunts birds and they origianlly said they would help me but now they are backing out. I was hoping for someone here in SW Washington but my sister is in Estacada OR so we just might be checking out the processor in Boring. Thanks for the referral!!

the also have a fryer special for 200 for 36.00 I am wondering if these are just there leftover males.

That is fantastic. I don't think I could do it, either, but I have started seriously considering it.

I do wish I could find someone to do it for me, though...or raise the roos and go in with someone that could butcher them and take half or whatever. Yup! I wish!
