How can I Make My hen go Broody?

I have been working on wooden eggs for about three weeks now and still no Broody Hen, How long does it take Grandma?

Most birds if and when they do go broody for me is usually in the spring and early summer. Most of the time they don't and I don't know of a way to make a bird go broody. There are some breeds that tend to go broody more than others for example Silkies. They are pretty broody and will hatch what ever you put under them. I rely on my incubator. I have had birds go broody and hatch chicks but mostly the eggs go into my incubator.

last November one of my RIR disappeared and we thought a critter got her...She showed up two days before Christmas with 11 babies in tow! Out of those 6 survived then we lost one to a skunk now I have 5 and I can hardly tell them from the older hens without looking close. They are so pretty Rhode Island red/Americuana cross...Still don't know for sure if I have hens or roos...lol

The first is the day we discovered them i scooped them up and put them in brooder box in my tack room.
The Second is with Momma looking over them...
The Third is about a month ago in their new coop we made of a truck shell sitting with their Papa.
Two white ones and Three red, the reds have green tips on their feathers like their Papa. That picture doesn't do him must justice, the gold laced feathers with emerald green tips...He's a beauty!

Here it is Spring and I can't get any to set...

My turkey recently started laying as well, she is only up to 3 eggs so I know it'll be a bit before she sets...She used to belong to a neighbor and I know she sets, I am thinking of poking some chicken eggs under her once she does, I read somewhere they do a good job of raising chickens...anyone know for sure?

Silkie hens are constantly broody. My game hens make good mommas, they are very protective.

Im trying to make my hens go broody but they just wont sit on their eggs. Im wondering if there is any way of making them go broody. One of my Cuckoo Marans sat on them yesterday but stopped after about 8 hours. Does anyone know why?

You can't make a hen go broody that I know of. My suggestion is to buy an incubator.

i was thinking of letting my neighbor RedIII borrow them so she can hatch some chicks. i'll see how that goes.

I have heard alfalfa tea helps them go broody. The recipe is online.

I don't know about giving them tea. I really don't think you can make a bird go broody but if they are going to go broody this is the time of the year. I have several broody's right now but I have already hatched all I'm hatching for this year in my incubator. I do give my birds bales of nice green alfalfa that they pick the little green leaves off of because they have long ago destroyed the grass in their pens.
