How Can I Mix Breeds?

We are planning on getting chicks in the Spring, and everyone wants to pick out their own hen. Can we have a flock with all different breeds without running into any problems? All hens will be large fowl and we won't have Silkies or Polish's.

Raised together there should be nothing but normal pecking order shuffling. Good luck with your new chicks when you get them.

Pick all Docile known Breeds..Certain breeds are known to be aggressive ..
My favourites are Brahma, Orpington and Speckled Sussex...All very sweet Birds..

Our 10 are 7 different breeds and get along just fine

Ours all get along fine, however there was a spell when they pulled out the beard of my only bearded pullet, now she is meaner towards the others.

You should be just fine. I've never had a single breed flock, myself. As far as I can tell, the chickens don't know or care that they're different breeds.

I have 22 birds, 7 different breeds, no issues. I like variety!

In all my years and hundreds of birds I have always had mixed flocks (raised together and integrated at varying ages)and have never encountered issues attributed to breed difference, rather the occasional personality conflict and those have come just as frequently between birds of the same breed as those of differing breeds

As you can see below, I have a very mixed flock. Even different sizes of chickens and other than a little chasing and stealing tasty morsels from smaller birds, they all live and roost in harmony.
