How can I train my dog not to chase my chickens?

OP is apparently a minor with no dog training experience.
Here's what I do on a thread I give my 2 cents on whats worked for me and they might try then I move along. Some people get a kick outta going through and reading all the recommendations and this don't work that don't work don't do this dont try that. Just give a freakin opinion on what YOU think might work and move on. How simple is that?

Of course, how to train your dog is a matter of personal style. There are lots of good ways that don't use shock collars. But I reiterate -- if the shock collar is used irresponsibly or cruelly that is the fault of the trainer, not the collar. I personally think it's cruel to keep a dog on a lead all the time.

I didn't say that she had to keep her new dog on a lead all the time. :) It will be free inside the house and be taken for walks a lot! When she has to let him out for a bathroom break you just clip the lead on and leave him alone for a couple of minutes, then when he wants to come back in, let um' in. It's simple - I he doesn't have to stay on the lead for literally more than 2 minutes if he doesn't want to.

Also, please note everybody that I know the OP really well so it's not like I just came in demanding everyone to listen to what I think etc etc etc - I also know this dog more than anyone else here does.

Instead of bashing our suggestions why don't you just give your response on what might work and move along. So sick of these correction Karen's all over this site.

I'm not a correction Karen. I'm voicing my opinion and letting @Lacy Duckwing know my thoughts on a shock collar. She doesn't have to listen to me - Sterling is not my dog. She can do whatever she wants.

Don't worry cluck, you're only a correction Karen because you happened to disagree with them. Yet when they disagree with someone else they are somehow a justified Jerry.
Funny how that works:lau

I swore I'd never use a shock collar but when my dog started chasing my goats and wouldn't listen to me I went out and bought one. Worked great for us.
You aren't electrocuting the dog, if you get a adjustable collar you can set it low. Its like dragging your feet on carpet and touching someone. I tried it on myself before I put it on my dog.

I have a suggestion.
This is if the shock collar and all the other training does not work
If the dog kills a chicken hang the dead chicken around its neck for a few days.
May not like my suggestion, but don't care.
I've actually seen something similar to this before at a poultry butchering farm. It's sad and grouse at the same time. I'm really attached to my chickens, so I probably could never do that, but that might work for someone in industry. Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)
