How can I train my dog not to chase my chickens?

Pics
Not true. It appears to depend on the breed. My German Shepherds could not see the red dot the cats were playing with, but my Aussies both can.
Maybe he just wasn’t interested in it. Also, they might be able to see it but it would not be in red. It would be brown or black. Obviously we can’t know for sure or ask a dog but there’s been a lot of studies on this and the general consensus is exactly what BC said. Although it should be clarified that it’s not that they can’t see the stuff, it just won’t be in those colors.

Just semantics... like what used to be commonly known as a "choke chain" is now called a slip or training collar. Back in the stone age we just called things what they were, we didn't bother with trying to pretty them up.
Heck, some people still call a refrigerator an "ice box" :gig
Yeah, good point! I actually still call them choke collars/chains and didn’t realize they changed the name on those too 😂🤣 I can’t imagine ice box though cause isn’t the ice in the freezer!? 😂🤔

I didn’t mean to be a jerk, btw, so sorry if I came off that way. Definitely didn’t mean to. It’s definitely mostly just a semantics thing like you said BUT I have seen people intentionally use the word “shock” to further scare or confuse people or to imply people are hurting their dogs, etc. so that’s why I wanted to clarify that. I know most people aren’t using it in that way but I’ve seen a lot of people do exactly that so that’s why. But yeah.

I honestly don’t care what people call it as long as they’re not implying everyone cranks it up to 500 😂🤣

I call it a choke chain, and the prong a pinch collar, LOL I even call the e-collar a shock collar sometimes.. oopsies.

But I DO see alot of R+ people finding the most barbaric names, calling them that, and then implying that it hurts the dog.. it doesn't.

Not giving my dog food as a punishment is much more annoying and aversive to him, rather than a tug on the leash. It depends on the dog

Yeah exactly!! I’ve been guilty of calling it a shock collar before too haha but yeah, my issue is with the people that do what you said where they purposely find the worst names and act like everyone is murdering their dogs. Meanwhile I’ve seen people yank and jerk their dog all over the place with a flat collar or one of those head halter things which is bad too. It all depends. Brewster thinks me pushing him off of me when he jumps up is a great game and runs back for more 😂🤣🤦‍♀️ Yet he cries and wails and launches at me when I deny him food in training like you mentioned 😂 or denying him attention. All horrible in his eyes lol

Back in the day all some people had for a refrigerator was an actual box with some ice in it, hence an "ice box".

I still call them choke chains too. 🤷‍♀️
Ohhhhhhh okay!! That makes sense!!! I call those coolers 😂🤣

And yeah same. To me a slip lead is like this haha

Plus there’s martingales too which don’t tighten as much and I think they’re just to prevent them from escaping rather than correcting? But for some dogs even just that little amount is aversive enough and it works

I like martingales, use them all the time. I like to train in a mostly positive way with the least amount of correction. If you use your brain instead of pain, you can have a well trained dog that will very happily work for and with you. Sometimes you have to come down hard on them and I will do that too when necessary, but that's very seldom.
