My sweety is playing Diablo while I am on the laptop at BYC. Every now and then... I read something to him that I think he might enjoy or find interesting... or have a good answer for. I admit... this time I sort of knew we would be on the same page.

Me: "Here's one. 'How can you stop a rooster from crowing?' "
Him: (pausing his game and turning to face me)
Both: "Ummmmm... COOK HIM!"
Him: "With a nice honey glaze!"

Yeah... sorry... but it IS the usual solution! Unless he is the bestest behaving rooster with show quality looks... any reason NOT to? The hens will lay eggs with or without him!

I have an australorp roo who is going off to freezer camp in a couple weeks. He crows ALL THE TIME. He got me to thinking about crow collars (like bark collars for dogs) or maybe a chicken muzzle??? Hmmmm there may be some money in those.

Turn it's head 'till it clicks. Kind of an off switch. Unfortunately there's no on switch.

Ummm, if you plan on hatching more eggs you're going to be faced with this same issue of more crowing roosters & a need to find new homes for them. And bantam roos are often more difficult to relocate than standard breeds, many people don't even want them for their small amount of meat. That's why I don't set bantam eggs under my broody hens any more.
