How did you choose names?

Some of them were given by the kids, others just kind of named themselves. I've still got a few that haven't got names yet, but they'll eventually tell us what to call them.

I haven't named all of mine yet. I just haven't figured out what fits them yet. The ones that do have names are Wizard of Oz/Wicked themed. There is Glinda (EE), Elphaba (EE...and is my avatar), Toto (light brahma) and Flying Monkey (my VERY obvious light brahma cockerel).

I'm realizing I can't keep track of all their names now that they are losing feathers and growing in different ones lol Some are still very obvious, but I'm screwed with all my yellow ones (I'm still on the fence about whether or not they are actually red stars lol)

How about other distinguishing characteristics, like eye color, comb shape, or something that doesn't change with a molt? It's the only way I can tell my Barred, GLW and Cuckoo Marans apart

So, we have 4 "Red Stars"... 2 were lighter and 2 were darker. Though we can still tell the difference between light and dark, we can no longer tell the difference between lightest and darkest - if that makes sense lol They aren't old enough yet to disguise between combs, and they all have the same eye color. Then I have 2 Wyandottes that we were telling apart by who had more spots, but do to molting that's hard. And again, not enough combs yet. I figure in another week or 2, they will be good. They are only about 4 weeks right now.

Hmm. Oh! what about getting them bands? I know all the farm stores around me sell generic colored leg bands, and some even have "designer" charm bands for chickens. Maybe that'd help?

I just figure out what the right name for my chickens are, it's kinda hard to explain. I usually don't name them when they're chicks, because then I might mix up the names or name a cockerel a pullet name or a pullet a cockerel name.

Hens: Raspberry (RIR), Eagle Eye (light brahma), Crystal (cochin), Pepper (cochin), Rocket (bossy japanese bantam mix), Rosey (Rocket's daughter), Chesta (serama mix who I thought was a roo.... her name was Chester until I figured it out), Olive (faverolle mix)

Roosters: Griffin (Olive's brother), Huckleberry Jr (Rosey's brother), Finny (Rosey's brother), Dusty (mutt), Pumpkin (mutt), Frosty (cocky OEGB mix), Lupin (over-eager cochin), Lil Chipmunk (OEGB)

All my chickens are bantams except Lupin.
