How did you convince your spouses/ roommates?

I sat down with DH and talked to him. I told him my reasons and explained that I was tired of going into the grocery store and getting eggs that I had no idea what went into them, came from hens crammed into a cage a given food and water by bell riinging, I wanted to poo for my garden and I wanted them as rototillers.

And the fact he loves eggs made it easier. Good luck. Just talk to him and have your facts together when you do...how much it will costs, how much space they will need, what it will cost to build a coop and a run for them yada yada...if that fails

go ahead sink to it.... Cry

I personally refuse to do so, I go on strike instead. No kitchen, No cooking, No laundry, No chatting and No OTHER things. I cry for no man! I tell him we will resume normal behavior when he removes his cranium from the rectal inversion position and sees that I am once again right!

hahaha, see what i mean? initially the men are like "NOT IT I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM, NO! YOU HAFTA DO IT!"

and then as soon as the little fuzzy babies are there "can i hold one? can i feed it? i'm naming this one, this one's mine."

Okay, this is one of the funniest and most interesting posts I have read on BYC so far!
For some reason, around Christmas last year, I decided I wanted guineas and started researching them. After a bit of looking around, I began to think I might be better off to start with chickens - they seemed easier, plus, what a variety you have to choose from. So I've been reading up on breeds, care, housing, etc. My husband says"What's with you and all the chicken books? You're not thinking about getting chickens are you? Birds are nasty and I'm not butchering a chicken (Mr. Super Deer Hunter balks at a chicken?!!). Are you having a mid-life crisis or something?" There was his mistake. Since he'd just spent the last year and a half (and a lot of money!) restoring an old Chevy truck, I simply replied"Yes, this is my mid-life crisis and its a lot less expensive than yours was!" He had no reply until the next day when he said "Where am I building your chicken coop?" My DH just gets smarter every year!

well my roomate does not pay rent (we have an agreement he pays other bills and such but mostly he has stuck around so there is a man in the house) so I did not really discuss the chicken thing with him other than to say I aqm getting chickens lol. Its a good thing that my bedroom is over the garage and not his because I dont know how much he would have liked hearing a roo all night and day lol. Now he said the other day that the house is starting to smell (which it is

) luckily my coops should be done in 2 weeks and they will all be out of the house lol!

my lovely lovely boyfriend is still convinced that he hates birds, but since the dog incident, every ten minuted i hear "I miss Mr. Bock-Mgawk... It's so messed up! i'm buying a better gun! those dogs are gonna PAY!"

He couldn't say "no".

I tried this with a puppy. We now have two dogs and...well...see siggy for the rest of the story.

My husband hated the idea (pure bred city boy) I've had animals my whole life just about. When I finaly convinced him to move out to the country he still said NO! My stuborn self was 7 months pregnant and got them anyway.Turned our small shed into a chicken coop and started off with a hen and a rooster then added 3 more hens a few weeks later. He started eating the eggs (I refused to buy store bought) and was THEN CONVINCED!
We had 100 chickens that next year and HE gave up his large shed and built perches and did the fencing for there new coop to hold them all and that was 5 years ago.We have had a steady 30 chickens from then on and are second oldest son is in 4-H this year proudly showing his chickens!
Sometimes you got to just take matters in your own hands and once they see the benifits of having fresh eggs and meat, THEY WILL LOVE IT!!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ANYONE IN THAT SITUATION! There not likely going to divorce you over it just get mad for a little while.
