How did your flock annoy you today?

So Laverne is one of my Bantam White Cochins and is 6 months old. She is now day 3 broody. But she uses the actual nest box and it is outside the coop so I moved her up about a foot to the rabbit cages because I can lock her in at night so we shall see how tonight goes before giving her eggs. Shirley her Partridge sister has been missing for 3 days and the reason I didn't truly think Laverne was broody is because I kept getting a bantam egg. Well today Shirley showed up just as I was going inside to bring my daughter's friend home after a sleepover so when I got back I checked for an egg. No Shirley to be found anywhere but I did get the egg. :he:barnieSo I now know the eggs I have been getting for the past few days are from Shirley and Laverne is Broody. Good news the husband doesn't know you can break a broody so I may hopefully have more chicks in a few weeks and not store bought so he can't complain.:celebrate

What I especially „love“ is when they step into cecal poop and smear you with it, while you are picking them up, even better, when they smear the freshly washed T- shirt you just put on 🙄 usually this happens when I have an appointment I can’t miss 🤪
Absolutely! It's the one time you're like, "Oh, I can just go put the chickens away in my work clothes... it'll be fine..." and then the poop is EVERYWHERE! LOL!

Dandelion bicycle-kicked so hard when I removed her from the nest box that she ripped through 3 layers of gloves. This is why I wear 3 layers of gloves. Girl's got some legs on her!
This is why I use old welding gloves. My husband gets new ones every few months so I use an old set for chickens and dealing with the wood pile since we have some nasties that could hide in it. So far nothing has gotten through those.

A few days ago, one of my girls laid her first egg. Except she decided it wasn't going well, so after spending awhile in the nest box she stood in the shallow cooling water and had a water birth. The egg had a little crack and I pulled it out of the water, then I showed everyone and as I said "looks like a soft shell" I gave it the littlest squeeze and it exploded in my hand.

This is way better than the oven mitts I was going to buy!
I also have a pair of welding gloves that I use as oven mitts. My last true oven mitts while brand new failed and gave me a burnt hand, shattered pan, and broken oven door when I dropped a pan because the lining of the mitten or something was not right. The next day my husband brought home a brand new set of welding gloves and I refuse to go back even if they are not that cute and definitely don't match my kitchen. If they get to the point I can't clean them they become outside use only gloves and the older gloves get retired.

I hate when that happens!
