How did your flock annoy you today?

I wonder about Pippin's level of intelligence at times. He ran out of the brooder tent yesterday and then panicked extensively when he couldn't get back in.
Most chicks I had showed the same stupidity. When they can see through, they suppose they can walk through.

The clever ones try something else after a while. Next time the smart ones try to go through once or twice but remember quickly where the door is

I had two older Dutch hens (pyle mother and daughter) who never understood. Blonds 👱‍♀️👱‍♀️ :gig

Good Morning. I let my flock out and when I turned around I saw 2 hens all puff up pecking through the dividing fence pecking back at them is my older hen Big Mouth. So 2 gaining up on 1 elder....grrr.. I picked up my BM, put her close my chest and her head under my chin while the other 2 looked on, they still puff up, making aggressive sound, but slowly walked away from the nasty scene.

I hope they both get it now that Big Mouth is boss. That 2 hens are my granddaughters, I love them to the moon and back ❤️

Mine seem to really like when I do this! I don't pick them up unless I have to, but if they're anxious, they seem to calm down. Must be like snuggling under a mother hen or something.

Yes, you are right, it is like snuggle up under mother hen. I have 2 hens that love to put their heads under my arm. I indulge them for 10 minutes, but they always want to stay longer.

She's so pretty!

Unfortunately it looks like I may lose one of Lavernes chicks. Very lethargic this morning and it just sits wherever it is placed and doesn't follow Mom just huddles there with eyes closed. It is now in my inside brooder getting some TLC. Laverne doesn't seem to notice she is missing one.
I’m sorry, Valkerie. That’s really unfortunate.

I'm so sorry. :hugs Is everyone else okay, or is a round of Corid in order?
Everyone else seems fine. I think Laverne may have accidentally stepped on it because she wants out of the broody pen to be with everyone else. Laverne and Shirley both get the backyard to themselves while everyone else free ranges in the day. In the evening I put those 2 and their chicks up and let the rest of the flock in so she sees them and wants to join them.

Last night I let Shirley and her chicks stay out with the whole flock. I will be waiting a few more days before I try that again. Some thought chasing Shirley or her chicks was a good idea. Unfortunately I have mostly large birds so Shirley is low on the pecking order so yeah. Face is Broody now and I think she will be the one that will put everyone in place about her babies since she is one of my most dominant hens.

That's awful, but I can absolutely see that happening. Chicks are just so fragile. A part of me wonders if that isn't what happened with the one I lost. Not that she was stepped on, but the woman who got them out of the bin when I bought them seemed very rough with them. Like, it actually made me wince a couple of times.

I hope everyone else continues to do well, and I'm so sorry you lost one!
